<p>The South East Coastal Communities Programme was funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England to develop new approaches to community-university engagement.</p>
<p>It brought together nine universities in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire working with a wide range of local communities.</p>
<p>The three year programme involved academics, community members, practitioners and students sharing their knowledge, skills and experience to develop innovative approaches to improving health and well-being.</p>
<p>Projects focused specifically on the needs of socially excluded communities &#8211; including older people; people with disabilities; children and young people; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) communities; Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities; and areas experiencing economic and social disadvantage.</p>
